Here are some simple tips and hints for using gurutoy:

1.  if you are a new visitor or don’t understand gurutoy.  click the “explore gurutoy” link right underneath the search bar on the home page.  you’ll go to a new page that shows some examples of the picture links that makes gurutoy what it is.  click on any of those pictures to see more information about that link before you decide to or not to “launch the website”.  keep in mind that gurutoy is people powered, so if you do a search for something and nothing shows up, that means it has yet to be uploaded.  or items in gurutoy do not have the tag words that you did a search for.  if this happens, please join and start helping give the search back to the people.

2.  you can do more if you join gurutoy!  please join gurutoy and begin uploading your favorites websties.  gurutoy is basically a “pointer” to anything in the worldwide web.  use gurutoy to promote your own website or promote your company’s website.  use gurutoy to point to particular items on your website.  other ideas is to use gurutoy to link to your personal blog, myspace, facebook or flickr pages.  the uses are endless and the best part is that it’s totally FREE to upload things.  as a member you can also vote thumbs up or down on links, add tags and subscribe to other members uploads.  if you “subscribe” to another member, anytime that member uploads something new, it will show up on your “my home”.

3.  the picture you choose is very important.  think about yourself searching in gurutoy for new and cool sites to explore, what makes you to click on a link?  use your digital cameras, cellphone cameras, search the web for images or just do a print screen(for mac it’s shift-apple-3).  you can use paint in pc’s(start-accessories-paint) or iphoto on macs to edit your pictures.

4.  if you forgot your password just click “contact us” at the bottom of the page.  we’ll email you a new pasword to get back in, then you can change it to whatever you want after that.  when requesting your password, you have to reference the same email address that we have in our system for your username.

5.  tags are key for good search results.  when uploading, try and use as many descriptive tags that you can for that site.  don’t forget plurals and acronyms too.  most people use “safe search”, so watch out for off color tags that can hamper the site being found.  it might be funny or cool or whatever to use those tags, but most likely, a lot of people won’t find it.  as members, don’t forget that you can “add” tags to all links on gurutoy, this will help you and others have better search results down the road.

6.  it’s easy to change or edit your picture on your member page.  just move your cursor to the left where the default picture is used, you’ll see a “change your avatar” button below.  click on that and browse your computer to upload any pic you want.
